Letter to the Founder That Wants to Give Up

There will come times when you question whether you should continue on your nonprofit journey…

Dear Founder,

This letter is to not only remind you of the IMPOSSIBLE being POSSIBLE but, also serves as a reminder that you are not alone! As you go through your nonprofit journey, you may face hurdles you think are impossible to overcome. You may face doubt and uncertainty about whether you made the right choice. Sometimes you may question if it’s worth it…and I’m here to remind you it is definitely worth it!

Remember Your Why. Your passion is what led you to found a nonprofit and it’s what will keep you going. When we work from project to project, wearing multiple hats we can easily get so distracted by what we’re doing and forget WHY we are doing it. Take a moment and ask yourself, What brought me on this journey in the first place? Now write your reasons down and make them visible on a daily basis. With your why in the forefront of your mind, you will be able to move mountains.

Your Journey is Unique. It’s so easy to compare our journey to another, without considering how they are unique. What works for one nonprofit may not for yours, and that’s okay. When you find yourself comparing yourself to another organization, take a step back. Ask yourself, What have I accomplished throughout my unique journey? And then celebrate them! Avoiding comparison and acknowledging your hard work is important.

We’re in This Together. I always say, never do this journey alone. As nonprofit leaders, we need to support and uplift each other. We are much stronger together than apart. If you need a community of like-minded and motivated founders, join our Facebook Group: bit.ly/NPE_Facebook_Group. We are always looking for new ways to push each other to succeed.

There will be times when you feel like giving up. Don’t. You got this. You are a changemaker whose impact can be felt. Remind yourself of your why. Celebrate your unique journey. And most of all, remember we are in this together.

Sincerely,
